Tim Epkenhans

Tim Epkenhans is currently an adjunct professor for history at the University of Freiburg (Germany). He studied History, Islamic & Iranian Studies in Münster, Cairo, Tehran and Bamberg, where he completed his PhD on early Iranian Modernism. Between 2002 and 2009, he worked for the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Embassy in Dushanbe and as the director of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. Tim’s current research is focused on late Soviet and post-Soviet Central Asia, especially the relationship between state, society and religion (Islam).
