Jan Reiff


Jan Reiff is a Professor of History, Statistics and Digital Humanities at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is also the Waldo W. Neikirk Term Chair for Innovative Undergraduate Instruction.  

Selected publications: 

The author or editor of several books, including theEncyclopedia of Chicago, her current research focuses on three projects.  The first is tentatively titled Manufacturing Communities: Pullman Workers and Their Towns, 1880-1981, a study of the former industrial suburb, now part of Chicago.  A second New Deal Visions, Post-War Realities is a comparative study of Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York that asks the question of how competing visions of urban space document by New Deal agencies influenced the redevelopment in those cities after World War II.  The third project, Seeing Sunset: Learning LA, is a digital textbook developed with UCLA students and the UCLA library and grows from a year-long course on Los Angeles in which she team-teaches.`
